Welcome to my web page for Math in the News. Please read the directions below and follow them to complete this assignment. The purpose of this assignment is to read current events and articles and to see that math is used in every day life from journalism to entertainemnt. Enjoy the project. Choose articles that have numbers and that are interesting to you!

Math in the News

• You are to find math in the news. Hint: Articles that contain charts, statistics, numbers, are ones to look at.
• Go to the different sites and choose five articles.
• Run off five articles to hard copy.
• Highlight the numbers in each article.
• Mount each article on tag board and find the following for each article.
• List all prime numbers, even numbers and odd numbers.
• Find te average of all the numbers from each site.
• Choose five numbers from each site and round them to the nearest thousand.
• Write a 2-3 sentence summary for each article on how it incorporates math.
• Create three graphs for comparison of articles.
• The graphs should be a line, circle, and bar graph.
• Graph averages, primes and even/odd numbers.
